The Whippany Railway Museum is owned and operated by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey, a nonprofit organization established in 1955 to support the preservation of historic rail equipment that has state and regional significance. The Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization, which is governed by representatives of various New Jersey-based railroad historical societies and associations.
A non-profit, the Museum is supported by donations from its visitors. Excursion train rides are a popular way to support the Museum, as proceeds from these trips go directly towards its continued restoration and preservation efforts. In addition, the Museum features a gift shop and snack depot. Those interested in becoming involved can volunteer their time and skills to the Museum’s ongoing maintenance and operations projects.
