The exhibits at the Whippany museum are well organized and clearly tell the story of the development of railway systems in America. Unlike some other museums that put dishes, lanterns and tickets all on the same shelf, this museum takes pride in arranging its displays more as a progression of how railways developed from coal, to steam, to electric. There are a few notable pieces on display including Southern Railroad steam locomotive No. 385; Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad passenger coach No. 103, christened by Phoebe Snow; and Pennsylvania Railroad N6b cabin car No. 981590.
Guests can also see the restored, 1904 freight house with its outstanding collection of railroad and transportation artifacts and memorabilia. The museum is open every Sunday from April through October from 12-4 PM. The admission cost is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
