Train Museums in New Jersey

train museums nj

Train museums nj are where you can see and touch trains and learn about the history of train travel in America. They are usually run by volunteers and have lots of hands on activities for kids. There are also exhibits of old train engines, tracks and other memorabilia. These are a great place to take your family on a day trip or a weekend getaway.

A few years ago, I visited the Railway Museum of England in York with a friend and we were amazed by what we saw. They had over 280 rail vehicles on display, ranging from wagonway vehicles to modern express passenger locomotives like the London and North Eastern Railway Class A3 No. 7302.

There was a large collection of Royal Train saloons from Queen Victoria’s early trains through to the ones she used when visiting the Commonwealth countries. Other highlights included the 1846 Furness Railway No. 3 Coppernob locomotive and the Victorian Railways carriages.

The Railway Museum of England is the largest railway museum in the UK and one of the most interesting places to visit with the whole family. It was founded in 1948 and is a non-profit making organisation. Some of the vehicles are on permanent display at York while others are split between Locomotion at Shildon and other museums and heritage railways around the country.

There are several other train related attractions in New Jersey, including the Whippany Railway Museum and a few scenic railroad rides. Many are operated by private railroad historical societies and organizations. Some are operational and offer train rides during special occasions such as the Easter Express or Great Pumpkin Train. The United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey is a non-profit group that unites many of these groups together under one umbrella to help preserve their historic trains.

While some are dedicated to preserving and exhibiting locomotives, other trains and exhibits are just for fun or learning about train travel in America. Some are open to the public while others are only accessible with a special tour. The Maywood Station Museum is an example of the latter, allowing visitors to explore this beautiful railway station’s past.

Another interesting train museum nj is the New Jersey Museum of Transportation in Allaire State Park. This museum focuses on the state’s railroading heritage and includes many historical artifacts, photographs and even restored cabooses. It also features a small narrow gauge railway that is operated during certain times of the year.

This museum is a true labor of love and the train set alone is worth a visit. It is massive and stretches over 50,000 square feet. It features over 8 miles of track and more than 1,000 scale structures. You’ll find cities and towns, carnivals, incredible canyons and 30-foot mountains all nestled into the model railroad. It’s a must-see for train lovers of all ages, as it’s truly breathtaking.

There are a few other attractions at this museum, such as the giant doll collection and 94 room dollhouse, but I would recommend this place to anyone that loves trains, no matter what age you are. It’s an experience that you won’t forget.
